Filling Out an Amicable Accident Report

The amicable accident report is a simple and effective tool, holding crucial importance. This document allows you to report the car accident and record all relevant information such as:
  • The names and addresses of the drivers
  • The driver's license numbers
  • The registration numbers
  • The insurance details
The accident results will be accurately recorded, making it easier to determine your level of responsibility for calculating the compensation you may be entitled to.

Notify Emergency Services if Injuries are Present

If there are no injuries, it is not necessary to call the police. However, if the accident has resulted in injuries, even minor ones, it is imperative to alert emergency services. The police will then write an accident report that will be sent to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ).
And if you hit an animal? You must notify the authorities in certain cases. If it is a domestic or wild animal, the law requires you to report to the police any collision involving an animal weighing more than 25 kg.
However, if the collision involves a small wild animal or a pest, inform the authorities when safety requires it, especially if the animal remains on the road. Some species are on the list of animals for which reporting is mandatory.

Contact Your Insurance Company

Your insurer must be informed as soon as possible following your car accident: whether you wish to file a claim or not, it is essential to inform them and detail the circumstances of the accident.
Your insurer will examine your vehicle and the damages to assess the compensation amount. Note that your insurer's authorization is necessary before undertaking any repairs on your vehicle.
